3dX2y
3DX2Y
This is one of the most iconic scene from my favorite anime, this scene denotes that the protagonist (Luffy) is not ready for the real world challenges. He lost one of the most important battle and faced the most furious villains.Thats when our pirate luffy, once again publicly appears on the battlefield after the loss with a tattoo of 3DX2Y which means he won't meet his crew in 3 days rather they would train to be stronger and meet back in 2 years. Similarly when i was offered a manager's post back in my home country, I knew that I wasn't ready for the real world and I needed to take a step back and go for further education to gain required knowledge. This is my 3DX2Y, where i want to get back into the professional world with more knowledge which will make me stronger than others in this field. While my research I came across York University through a friend, and this university ticked all the boxes.
Home sickness
My term started in winter, and in winters everything around is a bit slow. Unlike in my hometown where sun sets at 6:00 - 7:00 PM, here in winters the sun sets at 3:00 PM. This gets depressing sometimes, plus initially when I moved to canada i didn't had many friends or wasn't a part of any community or group. As i have always stayed with my family, this whole experience for me was new and very different. Something that I have never experienced before. There were alot of things that I didn't had to do while i was living at my house which I had to do here. Basically this wanted me to be more responsible.
The York Experience
The classes and the infrastructure was amazing. The crowd was so vibrant and full of energy, felt like I always wanted to study in this type of university. I realized the way we used to learn back in our hometown and the way we learn things here are very different. We were used to learning from textbooks and more theoretical knowledge, but when it comes to york from the very first day i was able to see a clear difference. Here we were trained and prepared for the real world. From the very first course where Rob used to teach us with his real life examples and how he used to deal with the corporate world problems. In second sem, we had Melyssa and Rovena where we learnt more about planning and analysis of content marketing and basics of digital marketing. In third sem we had content creation and Marketing for search engine and social Media. Where we came across Kanak, who had vast knowledge and Tim who has immense knowledge and hold in this sector but the best thing is Tim crazy energy and a unique way of teaching. I still remember, Tim had planned an activity for the class. This activity was to debate on long form Vs Short form content, till date this was the most interesting and exciting activity i have done.
Crewmates
I would say one thing, that learning is not only linear or vertical learning but also horizontal learning. Basically it's not just that you are learning from your professors, but you are also learning from your batchmates. This might not only be with regards to a particular sector, this can be anything. For example, Sid helped me to learn how to cook and a few other life skills, Sahil helped me to learn how to automate reports for a campaign, Prashant helped me to learn how to deliver a presentation, this made me more confident with regards to public speaking. In short, it's not just the academic part that i learnt in this university but also learnt life skills and this university didn't just help me with knowledge but also with my personality development.
Exposure
With regards to the exposure, we got to connect with a few guest lecturers. Having such connections and interacting with the guest lecturers who have years of industry knowledge, helps us to grow in today's world. We got introduced to many new tools for digital marketing and how they can be used in real world and at your work place.Work with my peers in the group helped me to understand how to work on a single objective and helped me understand with regards to the thought process of different people who are in different phases of their life.In this course i also earned a few certificate in Hubspot and google which would help me in future.
Home away from home
I know initially I felt homesick, but here today I have a home away from home. Being a part of this community, having all these friends I have made here have become my home. This place has given me more than what was mentioned in the course structure, a home !
Passing down my wisdom to my fellow pirates
This University focuses on the practical learning and prepares you for the real world. You need to unlearn the earlier method of gaining knowledge through the textbook and focus more on what is needed in the practical world. Prepare yourself for challenges, as you may face several of them but then in the end they will only make you strong.Regardless of your cultural or background, I can confidently say that York University is a place that welcomes everyone with open arms. One last thing is do not miss out on Samosa chat from Chaska in York Lanes !
