The Learning Experience

Interactive Classes and Skilled Instructors

One of York University School of Continuing Studies's finest features is the participatory format of its classes. I vividly remember taking my first marketing course with seasoned industry professional Professor Leigh Michell, who used case studies from real-world situations to help students understand complex concepts. Rather than being just theoretical, her approach was practical and understandable. We learned a lot more from her introduction of guest lecturers, one of whom was a marketing manager from a leading digital marketing company.

In-Class Activities

The in-class exercises were yet another highlight that greatly improved our knowledge of useful ideas. In a lecture on media planning, for example, Professor Leigh Michell gave us practical exercises to investigate market segmentation. We were assigned to create media strategies for several market sectors after being split up into groups. We were able to put theoretical ideas into practice through this exercise, which improved the effectiveness and engagement of the  learning process.

Advantages of Studying at York University School of Continuing Studies

Flexibility for Working Professionals

The unmatched flexibility provided by the York University School of Continuing Studies is one of its most notable qualities. There is a large selection of courses available to students that accommodate various schedules, including online learning options. For people who must juggle their education with other obligations, like part-time work or family duties, this flexibility is perfect. This flexibility changed everything for me as an assistant store manager at WIRELESSWAVE/TBooth Wireless and a working professional. I regularly attended classes in the morning before leaving for work, and instructors usually provided advance notice of assignments and important concepts, which helped me stay informed and ask questions when I needed to.

Conducive Learning Environment

Additionally, one of my personal favorite advantages of York University School of Continuing Studies programs is that the flexibility extends beyond the classroom. The learning environment is conducive to studying after classes, allowing students to review materials and complete assignments at their own pace. I often found myself in the serene study lounges or the university library, taking advantage of the quiet spaces to catch up on reading or work on projects.

Flexibility learning

Strong Industry Connections

York University School of Continuing Studies offers wide industry contacts, which is another major benefit of studying there. A lot of networking possibilities, internships, and job placements are frequently brought about by the curriculum's relevance and applicability. Classes are regularly visited by guest lecturers and individuals from the business, who offer helpful advice and practical insights. This industry linkage improves the learning process by fusing theory and practice, giving students a competitive advantage in the employment market.

Challenges Faced

Adapting to Different Learning Styles

It was quite difficult to adapt to the new teaching techniques and learning styles. Every instructor used a different strategy. For instance, I prefer interactive settings, therefore at first, I found Professor Andrew's Google Ads class challenging because it was primarily lecture-based. It took some time, but I eventually adapted by adding study sessions and hands-on activities to lectures.

Balancing Work and Study

Managing my education and my duties as an Assistant Store Manager at WIRELESSWAVE/Tbooth Wirelesswas difficult. On few occasions, I had to work past my usual bedtime in order to complete projects. During a very busy sales time, I had a large project due for my digital marketing class, and that is one occasion that sticks out. Despite the extreme stress, I was able to efficiently manage my homework thanks to my teachers' understanding and flexibility. Their assistance enabled me to continue on my path without sacrificing my obligations to my employer.

Current Studies: Digital and Content Marketing

Right now, I'm studying digital and content marketing to advance my degree. I have gained a better understanding of the basics of digital advertising tactics, SEO optimization, and content creation thanks to this training. The abilities I'm picking up will help me in my career as well as supplement the knowledge I learned at York University School of Continuing Studies during my earlier coursework

Future Aspirations and Wishes

Improved Services to Help Students

One area where I believe York University School of Continuing Studies could improve is in student support services. A friend of mine, who was also balancing work and studies, found himself overwhelmed with assignments and deadlines. He often felt anxious and struggled to manage everything on his own. During those times, we realized the immense benefit a centralized student support center in the SCS building could provide. Having a dedicated space where students can access mental health services, academic support, and career counseling would make a significant difference. More funding for these services would ensure that students like my friend and I have the tools and guidance we need to succeed, especially during stressful periods

Friend.

Reflecting on my York University School of Continuing Studies experience, I really feel like it changed me. The priceless information and abilities I've gained will be very helpful in my upcoming career aspirations. Throughout the difficulties, there were a ton of chances for development and education.

I strongly recommend anyone thinking about going back to college to check out York University School of Continuing Studies. It's a great option for continuing education because of its strong alumni network, skilled instructors, and large and flexible curriculum.
