Real-World Insights and Challenges at York University School of Continuing Studies

My journey at York University has been truly remarkable. It all began with my first course in Human Resource Management, an experience I thoroughly enjoyed. The satisfaction and knowledge I gained from that course inspired me to delve deeper, leading me to pursue a second course in Digital and Content Marketing. Like a coin with two sides, this experience has its positive and negative aspects. In this initial blog post, I'll be discussing both sides.

Positive Aspects of York University

Positive aspects include York University amazing faculty members who are working professional which provide students with flexible learning options. Whether we wish to choose morning classes, noon classes, evening classes or online course the university provides plenty of options to choose from as per the convenience of the students.

The faculty is quite professional who focus more on practical knowledge rather than theory, they are not only expert in their own fields but also dedicated about sharing their life experiences and knowledge which students can relate to. On top of it, the faculty is very approachable and accessible anytime over mail and in person during the class sessions which is quite helpful. This is what they call the open- door policy in which students can clear their doubts outside of the class hours whether it’s over mail, or virtual meetings to help students grow academically and professionally.

 Real-world insights and hands-on approach

Not only this, the faculty present real-world insights in the classroom sessions with practical examples which resonates with the students. This hands-on approach helps students excel their career and deal with obstacles with full confidence. Also, the class sizes here are so manageable which eventually enable more individualized attention and deep connections with both teachers and students. In addition to improving education, this sense of community creates enduring networks and professional relationships.

Excellent Service at the York SCS Registration Desk

The registration desk at York School of Continuing Studies is the central hub for all student inquiries, including admissions, general questions, and administrative support. My experience with them has been outstanding; they handle every issue promptly and efficiently, offering tailored solutions to meet each student's needs.

Professional Guest lectures, industry panels and networking events

Additionally, students are provided with professional guest lectures, industry panels and various networking events in which they can talk directly with the speakers and connect with them over LinkedIn and grow on professional levels. These interactions are a must, since they broaden students’ perspectives and create various pathways for them for their bright futures. The networking events helps students connect with alumni and industry professionals, providing students with potential job leads and mentorship opportunities.

About the guest lectures, SCS invites experts from various fields to conduct the guest lectures, in which students get to know the current trends and challenges which are quite helpful. Students get valuable insights about various industry that supplement their coursework and, in this way, it expands their knowledge and understanding beyond the classroom which is quite important to grow at personal level. For Example, in my Digital Marketing course, various speakers like Carol (published writer), Ramiz Essani (accomplished marketing professional) and many more speakers made special appearance and shared their personal experiences.

York University Recreation: Fests, Activities, and the York Lions Stadium

York University frequently offers a variety of recreational activities to cater to the diverse interests of its students. Last year, I attended a painting session where I had the opportunity to connect with students from different programs. The event included numerous variety of food and games, making it a fun and engaging experience. In addition to these activities, York also hosts numerous sports events at the York Lions Stadium, as well as music festivals and cultural celebrations, enriching the campus life with vibrant community experiences. In addition to the wide range of activities and events, York University offers an impressive variety of food options on campus, catering to nearly every taste. 

Negative aspects of York University

Now discussing the negative aspects of SCS York University, the first one that pops up in my mind is frequent power cuts which students as well as faculty members have to face during the class sessions. These disruptions impact the continuity of classes and activities which affects the overall learning experience of the students. Not only disrupting classes, power cuts also affect the administrative functions for example the registration processes, and online learning platforms.

Power outages

There can be a delay when it comes to a student's ability to obtain course materials, turn in assignments online, or interact with peers and teachers. Meeting academic deadlines and keeping up with course requirements may become difficult as a result. In my own experience, once I was submitting an assignment at the very deadline and could not submit it due to the power outage issue, which resulted in late submission and then I had to mail the professor and ask for help.

Responses to power outages

York University SCS is dedicated to reducing the negative effects of power outages on students' educational experiences notwithstanding these obstacles. The organization has procedures in place to respond quickly to technical problems and provide power restoration as soon as feasible. Additionally, backup plans are frequently implemented to guarantee that classes can be quickly resumed or moved if needed, avoiding disturbances to the academic schedule.

Overall experience at York University

My overall experience here at SCS has been amazing. I have grown as an individual and became more confident in myself which ultimately was the goal. I can honestly say that my time at York University School of Continuing Studies has completely changed my life. It has given me a supporting network of like-minded people in addition to improving my knowledge and abilities. York University SCS has the resources and knowledge to support you in achieving your objectives, whether you're a working professional wishing to progress in your career or a student looking to pursue a new area of study.
