My time at York university as an International Student
Perhaps the strangest thing that I have been experiencing during the past few weeks is that, on one hand, time seemed to have flown by so fast and, on the other hand, there has been so much of positive change in my life during these last 8 months that I have been in York university. Just one moment ago I was putting my suitcase onto the bed in a room at York village looking at the amazing building of York school of continuing studies through my windows, the next it was my two last subjects coming to an end at the university. Looking back at my time here has made me realize how amazing and fruitful these last 8 months have been and I would forever cherish the learnings, experiences and the people that I have met throughout this course. Let me take you on a ride sharing my experience at York and what future looks like for me.
Stepping out of my comfort zone in Canada
As an international student in Canada, I did not expect that York university would be so good for me in terms of learning opportunities and accessibility. On my orientation day I was genuinely amazed to see the diversity of the students and professors. I feel that the faculty of York university have worked above and beyond to create a safe environment for international students. I felt that all the orientation sessions were effectively conducted with relevant information about academics, services and other cultural information. It was for this reason that I received this initial support, which helped create a strong foundation for my course ahead and I was able to come out of my comfort zone and perform to the best of my capabilities at York. It has been a real rollercoaster for me to say the least, but if you had told me a year ago when I first accepted my offer at York university, that is who I would be today, I would not have believed it. Just to say, it is not going to be too cheesy to state that the York school of continuing studies has been such a great source of knowledge and learning.

Nevertheless, my experience as a student at York SCS student has been largely positive; however, it has not been totally smooth. I had challenges of adjusting to a new educational system, learning how to balance my time, and language barriers as well. However, these challenges were core to my personal development. Despite these challenges, the school provides many things like advising, tutoring with languages, and counseling services that assisted me in surmounting these challenges and come out a better person. Also, I was able to overcomes these challenges with the help of my classmates as all of us, being from different cultures, could discuss various issues within and outside the class with what we consider as our experience. To some extent, I think that being different from most classmates facilitated my learning because I was able to expand my perspective in terms of culture. Moreover, students unity is also well developed, I had a lot of friends from other countries and I think they helped each other in all kinds of situations including studying and personal issues so I would advice everyone that it is always a privilege to be an international student since it gives one a chance to learn different culture and norms. Approach it as a learning experience, try to be flexible in your thinking, and take an active part in your learning process interacting with the classmates and teachers.
My advice to future international students at York SCS
As my time at York SCS is coming to end, I would be happy to share my thoughts and tips which may help you in your own journey. My suggestion would be to seize any chance that presents itself and try to give it your full attention. Use as many of the tools as possible related to SEO, PPC, keyword planning, content research etc to guide you on your path ahead as a marketing professional also including career services and academic advice from the faculty. Connect with teachers, staff, and other students to form a solid support system of friends and mentors. To balance your personal and academic lives, maintain organization and good time management. Last but not least, look after your health by living a balanced lifestyle and getting help when you need it. You will be better prepared for both academic and professional success with this all-encompassing strategy, which will help you make the most of your time at York SCS.
