From Planning to Reality: My Journey at York University and tips for future students
\
Introduction:-
Hi, my name is Ronit kakkar, and my journey started all the way from India. As I already decided to go to Canada for my higher education during my graduation, I researched a lot about the Canadian universities and colleges and the different programs offered by them. After completing my research, I finalized York University, as it is situated in Toronto, the financial capital of Canada, where I can explore the ton of opportunities for my career and the amazing program being offered by York University, which is the “Digital and Content Marketing program,” with outstanding instructors who have in-depth knowledge of their fields and courses. The last thing that attracts me the most to enroll in York University is its diverse campus with all the modern facilities and students from all around the world.
Starting of my beautiful journey at York University:
My journey begins with the orientation day on January 11, 2024, at the Second Student Centre at York University. In the orientation, I got to know many different things about York, our academic structure, student insurance provided by Guard me, a tasty lunch, a bunch of fun activities, and some interesting quizzes. At the end, me and some friends went on a campus tour.
My first class was on January 15, 2024, conducted by Prof. Leigh Mitchell. On that day, I was very excited to join my first class, and during that class, I met with my classmates, interacted with them, got to know about their backgrounds and experiences, and we did networking as well.
Time really flies very fast when you are busy with your studies, house chores, part-time jobs, and many other things. My digital and content marketing program is almost complete, and I didn’t realize when this beautiful journey was going to end.
Things which i like about York University’s, School of Continuing Studies:

Events:
In York University, there are ample events that happen every day, and I used to enjoy so much going on these events, meeting new people, and making new friends. By attending these events, I grew my network, which later also helped me get my part-time job and in my career as well.
Approachable ,knowledgeable and inspiring Instructors:

Instructors at York University's School of Continuing Studies are very knowledgeable in their particular fields, have in-depth knowledge, and have the skills to explain complex concepts in an easy way. Professor leigh Mitchell, Tim Campbell-Smith, Andrew Temes, they are one of my favourite professors from whom i learn many valuable skills about digital marketing field and tips to have a good job in this field and my student experience is very good with them.
Guest Speakers:

One of the thing which i like the most about York University, School of continuing studies is that they regularly invite guest speakers. The guest speakers are the professionals who have huge experience in their particular fields and the explanations given by them are really very good . During my studies i got a chance to met with the guest speakers from top companies like Google, Amazon, spotify, zoomer media and many more. We get to know the valuable skills and what skills the employers are looking for nowadays in there employees. Guest speakers guide in a very nice way and also helps us to connect and network with them.
Its location:

One of the things that I liked about my studies at York University's School of Continuing Studies is its location, as when we were international students in our early days, we didn’t have cars to travel with, so we had to travel by bus. York University is situated in the North York region of Toronto. It is very convenient to travel to York University because it has its own subway station, and TTC buses also came inside the campus to drop students. York University also has its own ZUM bus stop (Brampton Transit) if you are living in Brampton. Due to York University’s location, it is very convenient to travel to the campus from all over the GTA.
Vibrant And Huge Campus:

York University’s campus is huge and has all the facilities for students, including a including a library, cinema, auditorium, stadiums, and many more. York University has a Tait Mackenzie Centre inside, in which there’s a swimming pool, gym, basketball court, and many other sports facilities.
Affordability:
Affordability is one of the key factors for which I chose York University's School of Continuing Studies. York is providing world-class facilities to its students. Their programs are very good, which give us in-hand skills to use in our careers with excellent instructors. If we compare the facilities provided by York with those of other colleges or institutions, they are charging a high fee from the students with fewer facilities being provided by them. Also York University, School of Continuing Studies, provides credits to its students on the courses that we have already completed in our previous studies and also facilitates the students to pay a fee in installments if their financial condition is not good.
Fixed Classes Schedule: In York University's School of Continuing Studies, the classes are for only 3 hours a day and four days a week for most programs, and they have a fixed schedule of classes, due to which it is very easy for mostly international students to manage their studies with part-time jobs.
Food Outlets: York University has a bunch of food outlets inside, and there are many options for the students to choose from. York has one small mall inside called York Lanes, where you can find food outlets, banks, gaming lounges, bars, dental and eye care shops, shoppers drugstores, and so many other things that I haven’t explored yet because of its huge campus. There are so many things to explore at York University.
On-Campus Housing: York University also provides on-campus housing facilities to its students, and it's very comfortable for the students to live on campus with an indoor gym and a convenience store in the QUAD Residence.
Advice for future students:
- Do networking with new people as much as you can, because networking is everything in Canada. Make new friends and try to connect with everyone.
- Don't be shy about talking with anyone; be an extrovert..
- Learn some basic skills from your home country for the program for which you are coming to Canada.
- Learn how to be more productive and efficiently do things.
- Attend networking events organized by York, which help you with your career growth and learning about people and their experiences.
- Grab every opportunity you are given and make the most of it.
- Don’t feel shy about asking questions of your instructors.
- Focus on your studies. In whichever program you are enrolled in, attend your classes regularly and try to learn new things regularly.
- Try to grab the most out of your studies at York University.
York provides its students with everything, but there are also some areas of improvement that I want to highlight:
York provides its students with world-class teaching with extraordinary instructors, but than also need to find jobs on their own. York must provide some on-campus placement opportunities to its students so that students can fully utilize the skills they have acquired by studying at York University.
