Is York University's Continuing Studies Worth It? My Acadamic Journey

The Beginning of My Journey
From my first glance at York University a year ago until submitting an application for the Digital and Content Marketing course, I was like a working professional looking forward to studying in another country with anticipation. The course outline was right up my alley, and the idea of sitting amongst an international class had a great charm for me. I didn't know that this journey would be even better than anything I had dreamed of.

Navigating a New Culture
Going to York University for a little adventure was an exciting time. Adjusting to a new culture was like trying to swim through untouched waters, with some awkward stumbles along the way. I have learned so much about the world and humanity from many of my classmates with their unique backgrounds. York is a very special place to study.

Challenges and Overcoming Obstacles
It was not always easy, though. Most of my classmates were of the same cultural background, and I did not find it easy to communicate with native Canadians. This was an obstacle I had to overcome, as I felt lonely in the cohort. Some of the subjects were also more theoretical, focused on readings and rote learning, which didn't immerse me in the material as I had expected. Despite these challenges, the main agenda of my studies was to introduce me to new concepts, and I believe that the people I met here are the most rewarding part of my experience.

Finding Support and Motivation
It took a while for me to secure part-time work, but the encouragement from my teachers and friends kept my spirits high. I remember a particularly low point during my job search journey. A classmate turned to me and said, "Just like Kendrick Lamar says, 'I'm a humble man, but I know what I’m capable of.' Keep pushing, and your breakthrough will come" from the song "The Heart Part 4." It was hilarious and hopeful, giving me a much-needed boost. Every class became a new experience, solidifying my interest in my studies at York University.

Coping with Mental Health and Personal Struggles
I always had a hard time retaining focus when I studied because of severe mental distress that led me to almost miss classes. The stress of fitting into a new culture, the pressure to perform well academically, and personal issues ate at me. Some days, it felt as difficult to get out of bed as if I had been asked to scale a mountain. With the help of friends and family, I slowly found my way again. Those tough courses taught me that I could overcome challenges and get through all roadblocks. They also helped me understand the merits of sticking it out and working my way through difficult situations.

Building a Sense of Community
Throughout this time, York University has given me knowledge beyond academics, providing life lessons. It has taught me the value of a sense of community, the beauty of diversity, and the strength that comes from trying new things. The friendships made and the support given have been priceless. It's been amazing to share laughs, study plans, and late-night assignment discussions over tea (or not) with friends, who became like a family away from home.

Achieving Success and Looking Forward
I managed to secure an internship, probably the biggest win of my journey. It was a victory and the culmination of a long, gruelling ascent. This experience and the people I met during my internship reignited my passion for content creation. The lessons learned and connections made will undoubtedly help me in my future career.

Final Thoughts and Gratitude
Looking back on my time here I just want to say thank you. The college has facilitated personal and professional growth, but actually to what extent? While I am optimistic for the future, confident that my new experience will help mold me into a better professional.

THEREFORE, PART OF THE REASON WHY I CHOSE YORK WAS that IT WOULD ALLOW ME TO CAPTURE TRANSFORMATION WITHOUT A HIGH TUITION COST AND NOW, YORK UNIVERSITY HAS TRULY BEEN A transformative ONE AND FOR THIS - THANK YOU
