Student Walking by the Keele Campus York Sign.

My experience as a student at York University School of Continuing Studies has been a roller coaster ride and life-changing. I have learned a lot, and my knowledge has increased massively with real-life practical skills, which are a crucial part of success in today’s job market. Sit tight and buckle up, as I will be unveiling my experience and offering very insightful guidance on how future students can make the most of their time and learning at this prestigious university. I hope after reading this blog you will be better equipped to face the challenges coming your way and already know how to tackle them.

I was a little nervous starting my first course at a new university as an international student, but since day 1, starting from the orientation, I have felt welcomed in this diverse and accepting community of students, professors, and other staff. The University takes pride in offering its students a collaborative atmosphere in which students are allowed to freely engage with their classmates as well as the professors. This is a very important part of succeeding in this course, as it boosts your learning through shared experiences and group projects.

Engaging Courses and Experienced Faculty

The curriculum aims to be both demanding and up-to-date, taking into account the demands and tendencies of the industry today. Instructors are well-learned professionals in their fields who teach the courses. This dual perspective enhances the educational process by bringing practical ideas into the classroom. With this, you don’t only get textbook knowledge but also learn the skills required in the real-life world. I found that the instructors created a lively learning environment by being approachable and receptive to criticism. The in-class activities and discussions give you an open floor to ask any questions or share your personal views or ideas.

Advice for future students

Do not Do not and once again Do not skip classes

I know it is hard to attend early morning classes and I hated it honestly but believe me, it is one of the biggest mistakes I made by not taking attendance seriously and skipping classes. Attendance was not graded for every course but attending every class was one of the most important lessons I ever learned. I had to work full-time for food and rent and manage school at the same time. My classes were 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM and work from 12:00 PM to 8:00 p.m. You can imagine how busy the schedule is and one of the reasons for me to skip classes. Attendance is essential for good grades because numerous assignments are addressed and clarified in class. Absence from class might cause comprehension gaps that can affect how well you do on assignments and tests. So don’t be lazy, push yourself and reach class on time.

Build Strong Network

The majority of the courses require group tasks, which are critical to the learning process. The best advice I can provide is to become friends with your classmates since they will be a key part of your course learning. Reliable companions can significantly improve grades and workloads on course tasks. A strong support system, such as those offered by your classmates and assignment group mates, will be valuable throughout your studies.

Take Advantage of Resources

Never hesitate to seek assistance with any subjects, operations, or other needs that arise during your journey. York University provides a variety of services to help its students succeed. They provide employment assistance, mindfulness training sessions, and much more to help you walk the right path in life while you are pursuing your degree. Engage with Professors

For every course you would have to do an evaluation, it did not feel useful to me at first but believe me offering feedback to your instructors can help them understand your learning style, and at York University, professors are your friends. You may provide helpful critiques on their teaching techniques, which will always result in improvements to the course learning experience. Establishing rapport with your lecturers can lead to mentoring possibilities and useful professional advice.

Attend Guest Lectures

A professional network is essential for advancing a career. Thanks to our wonderful professors, who will offer you opportunities to engage with experts who are invited as guest lecturers. These events give insights into real-world applications, networks, and observations that are incredibly useful for developing a successful career path.

Focus on Assignments

Every assignment is a chance for you to demonstrate your abilities and expertise. Your portfolio might contain high-calibre work, which is crucial while looking for jobs after graduation. Take excitement in your work and aim for perfection because employers frequently seek proof of practical abilities and project experience.
