From Career Roadblocks to York U’s Wonderland

Have you ever had the feeling that there was a never-ending pattern in your life? That's exactly, where I was last year, stuck in a continuous cycle of work and home without learning anything new in my professional life. It was obvious that I needed a bold change—something really drastic—to shake me out of this downward spiral. I therefore made the bold decision to return to school. But not just any school would do, I wanted to attend one where I would gain practical knowledge in addition to theoretical knowledge. Thus, prepared to explore a world of endless opportunities and new beginnings, I selected York University's School of Continuing Studies.
Orientation Nervousness to Classroom Joy
I still remember my orientation day—a mix of excitement and nerves. The fear of entering a new country where I did not know a single soul was overwhelming. It felt like being flung into the sea of strangers, all trying to figure out how one could change careers while learning from each other. So, in short, it felt like the first day of school all over again, only with grown-ups this time around.
I chose York University because to its innovative approach of teaching. The idea of concentrating on only two subjects at a time struck me quite a game changer. It would help me be deeply absorbed in each topic, rather than grappling with four or five subjects at a stretch throughout months.
Our classes would begin with lots of brainstorming, which was most invigorating. We always had a good start, brainstorming many brilliant ideas, and then end up in fits of laughter over some ridiculous ones. These were not just sessions for coming up with ideas but were meant to teach collaboration, negotiation, and how to piece something meaningful together.
Turning Strangers into Close Friends
Some of the best, most trusted, and well-meaning friendships that I have ever had were made right here in this university. We are all from similar career backgrounds and share common interests, which makes understanding each other's challenges so much easier.
I still remember one particular assignment in Doris's class where we were required to create a reel for the university. It just so happened that we randomized into a group, and it became one of the best experiences in my life. We shared laughs and cracked jokes, and in some ways, managed to finish up the assignment not only productively but very pleasurably too. That would be a really good example of how teamwork and companionship are able to transform any simple project into something really memorable.
Levelling Up In Life
For me, York University has changed everything in a million ways. Back in the day, I was a nervous and stage-frightened girl who rejected speaking in front of an audience. My first presentation is still clearly in my memory. I was so nervous that I stammered over my words out of fear that I would forget something and disappoint my group.
But that was back then. I've come a long way because of York's opportunities and my classmates' encouragement and support. I now speak my mind with confidence and don't hesitate or fear being judged. I had support from my classmates at all times, who helped me realize that feeling anxious is totally normal. They showed me that you could overcome your fear and speak confidently if you had a little self-assurance and practice.
My blogging career and my personal life have been greatly impacted by York University. My professional development has been tremendously aided and new and exciting opportunities have arisen as a result of the abilities and knowledge I have gained from my coursework.
I had confidence issues at first, especially when it came to being on camera, as a food blogger. Still, I was able to gain confidence and experiment with new platforms like TikTok by working on assignments like making reels for York University. I had never used TikTok before since it was illegal in my home country. Moving to Canada allowed me to learn this platform, which has significantly expanded my blogging reach.
Steering My Career in the Right Direction
I've adapted a new viewpoint that focuses on growth and adaptability thanks to the direction of highly qualified professors and the encouragement of an amazing peer group. Sincerely, I think the knowledge and perspectives I've acquired here will help me stay ahead of the curve in the rapidly changing job market of today.
The rigorousness of the curriculum, caring faculty members, the encouraging learning atmosphere, and the good networking opportunities all helped me in my success. I strongly recommend York University's School of Continuing Studies to all those who seek truly transformative education and a strong foundation for their career. The institution not only equipped me with knowledge and skills but also groomed me into a person who could adapt to new challenges. This will be a place where they can fulfill many of your dreams and create many memories.
