Choosing a university from almost 12000km is not an easy task for anyone as there is a lot to consider before putting your time, money and energy for almost 1 year which is going to play a major role in deciding my future career. After looking over 25 universities in Canada, The one that caught my eye and mind was York University, Keele Campus. I looked up over a 20 videos about the campus online which made me feel like a place where I would fit in well. The amenities that York provides its students to enjoy in the campus made me feel like home. Which is important for any international student so that we can focus on our studies. I chose the course of Digital Marketing which matched with my previous degree of journalism and mass communication perfectly. Let me take you to my 8 months affair with York University and how this roller coaster ride impacted my professional journey as a Digital Marketer.
My first day at York was a walk I would never forget as the University being big enough to me take a transit to get from one end to another. The first walk with Todd and my batch mates after my orientation took me through big buildings full of classes with students, a big library in which even after 8 months I get lost and the York Lanes where I knew is a spot I was going to spend most of time outside my classes.
The first day of my class came after my orientation where I made new friends which now I call my family in Canada. I was surprised by looking at the innovative design of my SCS building which is rare to find in the countries where I come from.
After a few days while walking home I explored the Strong Pond near York University Bergeron Centre for Engineering Excellence, and since then, it has been a spot where I find the most peace. It was a spot where me and my friends usually went to get done with our assignments and enjoy the weather.
The Academic learnings at York University Keele Campus
Talking about Academics which was an experience like no other my friends from other universities have always been jealous of me because I never had the pressure of scoring well in the exam, But got the opportunity to learn everything with practical case studies and guest lectures. The classes where full of discussions and presentations which made me reduce my stage fear. Guest Lectures where another opportunity for my to get connected from people who I want to become like in the coming years.
Every professor in the University not just graduates from a teaching degree but also hold a lot of industry experience which was super helpful when it came getting the real industry insights.
The professors were all super friendly and understanding when it came to assignments and gave proper guidance before moving forward with it just so I could maintain a good grade.
In class assignments made me stay focused in class everyday and made me use my creative side by brainstorming new ideas during discussions.
I guess enough on the academics for today! York University has changed me as a person 180 degrees because of the exposure that got inside the campus. My school was scheduled for 6.45pm to 8.45pm but you could easily find me in the campus gym with my friends pumping out reps and after that at my favorite fast food restaurant which is Osmows, Just got the taste of it my mouth while writing about it!!
Accommodation: The Quad
Quad a residence at York gave me the convenience to attend all my classes on time where my friends got late because of weather or TTC delays, because of quad I just had to take a walk for 2 minute for my class making it super convenient for me with security and in building grocery stores which made sure that I eat less fast food and more homemade healthy food.
York a good choice?
York for me has been great because of which my second years course that is public relation has also been finalized at York University, Keele campus, The best part being my currents friends at York are also continuing the same course with me in the campus.
According to me anybody who is more inclined towards getting practical in field knowledge and exposure he/she should join York University.
Advice for future students at York.
My only advice for my future York students will be to be yourself and come with an open mind and heart because this place will be storing a lot of memories and learning and your heart and mind.
