MY EXPERIENCE AND TIPS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS FOR YORK SCHOOL OF CONTINUING STUDIES, TORONTO, ONTARIO.

Introduction: Studying as an international student in the York School of Continuing Studies has been a wonderful experience that involves challenge, enhancement, and transformation. Living and studying in a new country was at first challenging. However, York School of Continuing Studies was very good in sort of providing support for me. The faculty and staff members were friendly and did not give awkward looks when changing over from high school. The multicultural student population also helped much in making me feel more at home.

I have decided to achieve a Post Graduate Certificate in Digital and Content Marketing and the process has been quite enlightening. Luckily I was able to gain knowledge from such experienced people and armed myself with practical knowledge. Especially, the courses taken such as HubSpot, Google certificates, and SEO were found to be most useful.

CHALLENGES FACED

Cultural Adjustment
To change the culture and lifestyle, one has to have all the time and have some patience. Thus, getting involved in campus activities, as well as joining different student organizations, became a solution to this hurdle.

Homesickness
I noticed that it was hard at times to be close to family members, but by being able to call through the video, and making new friends the situation was made easier.

Some RECOMMENDATIONS that the FUTURE INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS can consider are as follows;

Be Open-Minded
Accept the new culture and be willing to change for the newer practices to be effective in your life. The decision to live in a different country has many implications; new culture, norms, beliefs, and views. Approach those differences with a sense of adventure and a student mindset. Besides fostering your enhancement of cultural awareness, it will facilitate your better assimilation into the community at York.


Seek Support
In case of any help needed, do not fail to consult the faculties, the staffs, or any students that you encounter. York School of Continuing Studies has provided a strong support mechanism meant to assist you in all your ways. Studying is hard whether you don’t understand a topic or simply can’t finish a task, you are not alone, there is help for that.


Get Involved
You should join one or several groups on the campus in order to have friends and improve the experience in the university. Involvement in student associations, clubs, and other co-curricular activities allows individuals to make new friends since like-minded people are usually brought together. The given groups can create a feeling of belonging, which is crucial for numerous people, including international students.

Stay Organized
Ensure you have a schedule that list down your assignments and their respective due dates so that you are able to adhere to your planned schedule. To ensure you do not get bogged down by your papers, you must embrace organization. Appoint checklists of activities/assignments, planners, calendars, and other tools such as apps/software to help you track deadlines and important dates. Divide work into portions so that it does not overwhelm you, and instead of focusing on large assignments, work on smaller tasks that are part of a major project.

Take Care of Yourself
Ensure that you structure your student schedule in a way that you get some time for social and leisure activities. There is nothing wrong with having a social life let alone balancing it with your academic life. Make sure that you find sometime for recreation and be in a position to exercise and do things that you like doing. Meeting people and going for various activities, leisure to the workers, and taking up hobbies are good for the health of the Social worker or nurse.

Conclusion
I was a student of York School of Continuing Studies and the experience was nothing less than a big change in both my academic as well as personal life. Through these challenges, I have learned and grown because of the difficulties that came my way. The experience with each challenge was evolution and the growth of strength and resourcefulness. Of course, York’s challenges were always hardly powering when the community and faculties even embraced the spirit of close friendship and the formalism of multicultural college overall. Therefore, it can be deduced that my experience at York School of Continuing Studies has been amazing.

To me it is beneficial because the experiences I had, the skills I gained, and friends I made will helpful through out my life. Prospective international students read into the experience with fervor and an unprejudiced lens. Face it head-on, and live life to the fullest whenever there is something to be enjoyed. Experiences that you will capture in York are such wonderful experiences that will make your moments there memorable.
