From Uncertainty to Opportunity: Embracing Change 

The York School of Continuing Studies is a community with a diverse nature of learning and a sense of belongingness that is united by a shared sense of purpose. With ongoing market fluctuating dynamics, it is evident to see a rapidly changing career and educational landscape with people aiming for professional growth and achieving personal goals. As one of the millions of international students from India, I often ponder whether the investment of my father's hard-earned money is truly worth it. As someone who once considered pursuing a master's degree in India, I know firsthand how incredibly hard—or almost impossible—it can be to crack any competitive exam with the sheer amount of competition. This reality leads many of us to leave the country, following in the footsteps of family members who "made it" in the West, earning a six-figure salary, owning a house, and driving multiple cars.

Did I choose York University because the fees were relatively lower? Because I received the offer letter in just 15 days? Or because the agent called me every day, pushing me to pick this school due to the commission they would receive? I was skeptical too. Here's my experience if you are in the same boat.

I am Aneri Modi, pursuing a postgraduate certificate in Digital and Content Marketing. After completing a Marketing Management program at Sheridan College, and examining job postings online, I realized the growing demand for Digital Marketing skills. After doing some research and comparisons, I chose the Digital and Content Marketing course at York University's School of Continuing Studies. I was attracted by its favorable tuition fees for international students and York’s esteemed brand image in comparison to other diploma colleges.

One day we walk into our class, and what do we see, Legos! We are looking at each other and whispering, are we playing legos in class today? As we settle down, our professor says each group is a marketing team and you all have to design a campaign, and a lego art-piece out of it. A thousand lego pieces and long brainstorming sessions with my group, we came up with an idea of creating a netflix reality show, featuring lego artists, partnered with well known brands. Where the artists will create masterpieces as per the theme of the episode.

I am Jouella Gonsalves, an international student from India, and I came to Toronto, Canada in 2023. While applying to colleges in Canada, I realized I didn't have anyone to give me a realistic picture of what to expect from Canadian education. So, I watched a few YouTube videos and decided to pursue a good-ranking college that offered a media course which was one of the best for an international student like me. However, it was nothing like I imagined. My first year was a struggle as I juggled a new schedule, a part-time job, college assignments, and much more. Thankfully, things have started to look upward this year. So, let me give you a realistic picture of what to expect when studying at York's School of Continuing Studies to help guide your decision-making if you're considering enrolling here.
