A Warm Welcome

From my very first day at York University School of Continuing Studies, I knew I was embarking on a transformative journey. Todd Rich, our Program Manager, welcomed us with a heartfelt speech. His words not only outlined the university’s policies and regulations but also made us feel at home, setting the stage for an incredible period of learning and growth.

When I first decided to move to Toronto, I had no plans of pursuing a career in marketing. I was a bundle of nerves and excitement. Equipped with a graduate degree in mass communications from Mumbai, India, and a post-graduate diploma in journalism from Humber College, Toronto, I understood the world of communication. It was when I visited my family and friends back home, that I realized that I should pursue marketing to arm myself further in the corporate world of content writing.

Studying at York School of Continuing Studies has been a huge journey that helped me grow personally and professionally. Being a postgraduate student in the Digital and Content Marketing certificate program, I have fought many battles and celebrated several successes that shaped my understanding of this industry and future career goals. In this blog post, I want to share some of those experiences and advice with all future students who may think about treading on similar paths.

Hi there!
I am Jouella Gonsalves, an international student from India, and I came to Toronto, Canada in 2023. While applying to colleges in Canada, I realized I didn't have anyone to give me a realistic picture of what to expect from Canadian education. So, I watched a few YouTube videos and decided to pursue a good-ranking college that offered a media course which was one of the best for an international student like me. However, it was nothing like I imagined. My first year was a struggle as I juggled a new schedule, a part-time job, college assignments, and much more. Thankfully, things have started to look upward this year. So, let me give you a realistic picture of what to expect when studying at York's School of Continuing Studies to help guide your decision-making if you're considering enrolling here.
